I got my copy hot odd the press and on my doorstep yesterday. Of course I wanted to load it immediately. I read the instructions, and it was supposed to be a quick upgrade from Vista. There was a warning that I would need to back up my files and start over from scratch if I was upgrading from XP.
I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Adviser, and was surprised to see that most of my hardware was recognized and supported. Ironically the hardware that wasn't supported was my Microsoft Pro Digital Keyboard. Software was also pretty much OK with Win 7. The only software flagged was my NOD32 antivirus and Microsoft's own ExpressionStudiio,
So I plopped in the DVD and clicked Upgrade. Things started well enough. That is until I got a message saying "cannot upgrade from Vista Ultimate!" OK, I've got all my stuff backed up, so I go ahead and do a full format and install. Launch to finished install was a little under 90 minutes.
The first thing I did after the install was check my hardware. Win 7 had me download the new drivers for my keyboard, but it natively recognized my HP D7460 wireless printer, my HP 4890 scanner and even my old Wacom Intuos3 tablet. I was even more surprised it recognized my Hercules Webcam when I installed ooVoo.
I'm still installing apps, but so far everything has gone smoothly (knock on wood) I'll post more this weekend as I start using my system more aggressively.
